Cuddles!

One night Ruby appeared in the kitchen and announced "I want my sister in my arms!". "Hmm - ok then, I sense a photo opportunity coming" thought Mummy with glee!

Fun in the bath

Leah experiences her first bath with her big sister - piles of fun! Ruby was a big help, washing her hair and arms! Leah loved the room to kick!
And then another day, Daddy hopped in the bath for a tea party! (And yes, he gave me permission to plaster his bathtime pic on the net!)

Ruby gets her head read

Ruby's had a couple of seizures over the last 6 months and so to be safe the specialist has sent her for a couple of tests. The first one was an EEG - reading her brain waves. We thought it was going to involve sedation - everything we'd been sent had said so - but luckily she didn't have to. In her usual unflappable way, she sat still and quiet and submitted to the process with a smile. The Thomas the Tank Engine DVD to watch helped too!! Clever hospital people!! Having piglet along was also good as he was equally unflappable.
Here's what happens when you have an EEG - when you're 3 anyway, not sure it would be quite so much fun for an older person (ignore the dates on the photos, Mummy got a bit confused)! First you have to wait in a waiting room with Mummy and Daddy.
Then they measure your head and make marks with a red pencil. Then they attach all sorts of coloured wires. You can choose which colours to start with if you like!
Then there comes a funny hat to hold everything in place.
Then you get to lie down and they ask you to do things like close your eyes for 10 seconds, and blow a windmill and look at some flashing lights. Mostly though, you just have to lie there and have a rest.
When the hat and wires come off again you're just left with the glue and the wild woolly child hairdo! Ruby has a book about a wild woolly child who has hair that cannot be tamed or cut - today she looks just like her!

Three days later and we're still trying to get the glue off her skin! Ah well, that's what happens when you have such amazing adventures at the hop-sital! (nothing obvious was seen on the scan, but we're waiting for it to be analysed and then see the specialist again. At the next visit, we understand there may be an ECG - recording the heart - so watch out for the next pictures!)

Miles of smiles

We've done it - we've captured the gorgeous grins on film (geez - does that date us? Ok, maybe, but "we captured them digitally" doesn't really have the same ring!)And for those that keep asking "does she look much like Ruby at the same age?"... not sure - you compare... The one with the bib is Ruby at 13 weeks. All the above are Leah at 11 weeks(ish). Whaddya reckon??

Busy times!

It's been a busy couple of weeks in the Thomson household! First we went to visit with Anna's Aunty and Uncle in Tokoroa. We all had a great time and the 3 papillon dogs were very excited to have Ruby to play with. Leah yelling in protest at a nappy change had them all curious, and Jack the puppy even joined Ruby on the couch for a story. Unfortunately the batteries on our camera had run out for all of those little moments - darn it!! Aunty Ruth is an op-shop hunter extroadinaire and had found a stuffed horse's head! Half an hour in the garage with Uncle Bevan and it was reborn as a hobby horse + luggage carrier (!?). Ruby was in love and despite the freezing temperatures, took it outside to gallop up and down the street. Must be something to do with the family - when Anna was a little girl, she used to ride horses when she went to visit these guys too (albeit, real ones!).Ruby also was lucky enough to be given a bag with Pooh Bear on the front and wonder of wonders, it had a book inside too - another in a favourite series of hers, just by chance!Back home again and a horrible rainy afternoon called for some cookies to be baked and decorated. Great fun - even if Mummy had to ring a friend in Wellington to find out how to make coloured icing (durr!). Not sure what part of "make icing, add colouring" was confusing, but it was!
While the big girls were decorating cookies, Leah discovered her shadow. Owen thinks she was making shapes on purpose; Mummy isn't quite so sure, but it makes a cute photo!Speaking of cute - check out the wonderful cardy another (far more domesticated and talented!)Anna made for her.
